
Veteran politician and former Punjab Governor Mian Azhar passed away on Monday at the age of 84. He was the father of PTI leader Mian Hammad Azhar and a prominent figure in Pakistan’s political landscape for several decades.
Mian Azhar served as Governor of Punjab from 1990 to 1993 and later became the founding chairman of the Pakistan Muslim League–Quaid (PML-Q) during General Pervez Musharraf’s regime. He also served as Mayor of Lahore and was elected to the National Assembly multiple times.
Highly regarded for his political wisdom and respectful demeanor, Mian Azhar enjoyed broad respect across party lines. Colleagues often described him as a principled and soft-spoken leader with a deep understanding of governance and public service.
Condolences poured in from across the political spectrum, with leaders from various parties expressing grief and paying tribute to his contributions. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family soon.
