Emergency alert: PDMA warns of storms on 9th and 10th muharram

Published on: July 4, 2025 3:06 PM

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has warned of heavy and stormy rains across Punjab on 9th and 10th Muharram. The rain spell is expected to begin on July 5. Authorities fear these conditions could affect religious processions and gatherings during Muharram. Therefore, the PDMA has advised the public and procession organizers to take necessary safety steps in advance.

According to the PDMA spokesperson, the public should stay away from electric poles and wires during the rain. People are also urged not to hold gatherings on old or damaged rooftops. These areas may collapse due to strong winds or heavy rain. Moreover, organizers must plan events keeping the weather risks in mind.

The PDMA also warned of flood risks in certain regions. Dera Ghazi Khan’s hilly areas may face flash flooding. People living near rivers and streams must stay alert and avoid unnecessary travel or crossings. Even if water levels appear low, sudden floods can occur due to rain in upper areas.

Meanwhile, rescue teams across Punjab will remain on high alert during the two key days of Muharram. PDMA has instructed all rescue and emergency services to prepare early. They must stay ready to act quickly in case of flooding or any weather-related emergency. This preparation can help reduce damage and save lives.

In case of any emergency, the public should call the PDMA helpline at 1129. Early reporting can help rescue teams respond faster. The PDMA is also working with local administrations to keep roads clear and safe. With timely action and public cooperation, risks can be managed effectively during this crucial time.
