The Russian government said on Friday that Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant is completely safe and working normally. Russia gave this update after Israel mistakenly claimed to have attacked the site. The Bushehr plant is run with help from hundreds of Russian workers. Russia made it clear that everything is under control.
On Thursday, Israel said it had hit the Bushehr plant but later admitted it was a mistake. Russia’s nuclear chief Alexei Likhachev warned that an attack on the site could lead to a nuclear disaster like Chernobyl. However, he said no damage occurred, and the plant continues to operate safely.
Bushehr is Iran’s only active nuclear power plant. It uses fuel from Russia, which is returned after use to avoid any nuclear weapon risk. Likhachev said the plant remains in “pre-mobilization” mode, meaning they are ready to act quickly if danger increases.
President Vladimir Putin said there are around 600 Russian staff at Bushehr, including 250 full-time workers. He added that Israel promised Russia it would not harm them. Some temporary staff were evacuated, but the main crew stayed.
The news comes during rising tensions between Israel and Iran. Israel says it is targeting Iran to stop nuclear weapons development. Iran denies this and has fired missiles and drones at Israeli cities in return. Russia has urged both countries to avoid further conflict and warned the U.S. not to get involved.
