The recent accusations by the newly elected body of the Society of Aircraft Engineers against the national airline are regrettable. There is no truth to the claims made by the society’s newly elected president regarding the sale of ten engines from PIA’s fleet at a minimal price. The PIA administration believes in transparency, and the engines in question are completely unusable. Following all regulations, a tender has been issued for the sale of these obsolete engines, which is a standard practice in the aviation industry. All relevant public procurement laws have been fully observed, and the process is ongoing. Revenue generated from the sale of these obsolete engines will be used to purchase parts needed to keep the aircraft operational. The spokesperson also stated that the PIA employees’ pension and provident funds have already been transferred to the PIA Holding Company, and all employee dues are being paid on time. Additionally, pensions are being regularly distributed to all retired employees. The spokesperson further clarified that since 2017, recruitment in PIA has been suspended following orders from the Supreme Court of Pakistan. However, for certain positions required by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan, contractual hires are made, fully adhering to all regulations.
