ISLAMABAD: The 14th meeting of Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) was adjourned on Monday due to a lack of quorum. Some UC chairmen blamed Islamabad Mayor Shaikh Ansar Aziz of restraining members from attending the proceedings. Earlier on Sunday, several MCI members had held a meeting and decided to give a ‘tough time’ to Aziz during the session. The members were demanding the removal of incumbent MCI Chief Officer Asad Mehboob Kiani. They alleged that Kiani was not working prudently for the MCI as he also held an important position in the Capital Development Authority (CDA). However, sources inside the civic body informed Daily Times that these members were annoyed with the chief officer because he had written letters to UC chairmen to restrain them from collecting unauthorised taxes from general public in their respective areas. “He has also issued a notification baring UC chairmen from imposing taxes, which are in the domain of MCI,” sources said. “The UC chairmen also invited tenders worth 10 million on their own. They are not entitled to do so. Now they want to get approval for these tenders from the chief officer. Kiani has turned down their requests because the same were floated in violation of rules,” another CDA official said. However, the session, during which these annoyed members of the ruling party were planning to protest against Kiani, was adjourned. Talking to Daily Times, an MCI member said that the mayor had stopped other members from attending the session to avoid any strong reaction. However, when contacted, Islamabad Mayor Shaikh Ansar Aziz rejected the claims and said that the adjournment of the session was a routine matter because the proceedings of the house could not be run without the proper quorum. One-window operation: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) needs to improve the working of its one window operation (OWO), Mayor Shaikh Anser Aziz said on Monday. He expressed these views during a meeting held at the CDA Headquarters. The meeting reviewed the progress of the One Window Operation Directorate. The meeting was attended by the senior officers of the Estate Wing. During the meeting, the mayor was informed that 148 transfer cases had been processed and completed during the month of June, 2017.
