KARACHI: The Defence Housing Authority (DHA) has submitted an application to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) seeking a distribution licence for DHA Energy Supply Company (Private) Limited. The DHA is developing a large-scale residential project north-east Karachi called the DHA City Karachi (DCK). In order to ensure the reliable distribution of electricity, the DHA intends to develop its own power generation projects and its own electricity distribution network for the DCK. The DCK’s distribution network is intended to be located adjacent to the territories of K-Electric Limited (KEL) and Hyderabad Electricity Supply Company (HESCO). While giving reasons behind the plan to develop its own power generation projects, the DHA said: “The Karachi-Electric (KE) and the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) are struggling to meet their existing demand, with their consumers consistently facing severe load shedding, excessive billing, frequent tariff hikes, and non-compliance with various laws.” Published in Daily Times, September 19th 2017.
