LARKANA: The senior & junior lady doctors of Shaikh Zayed Hospital for Women (SZHW) celebrated International Mother’s Day under the auspices of the Society For Gynea and Obs, Larkana Chapter, for which a colourful event was organized at the Hospital here on Saturday to mark the day. They cut a cake, danced to the tune of famous Sindhi song “Ho Jamalo’, presented various tableaus to highlight the significance of the day, paid rich tributes to the mothers and made the event memorable. Dr. Rizwana & her team presented a tableau which depicted how a pregnant woman of rural area dies due to lack of proper healthcare facility in remote areas and the role of a quack or Daee. Dr. Anam, Dr. Shazia and Dr. Sonia presented a tableau highlighting the woes of mothers who have been left at Old Age Homes by their children. Dr. Seema sung a song ‘Piyaree Amaan” and saluted mothers for their legendary role. The lady doctors also displayed pictures at a gallery which were captured with their mothers highlighting their role in their lives. The Head of Department of Gynea-II, Dr. Shahida Inayat Magsi, Dr. Dayali Gul, Dr. Iram Naz, Dr. Shaista, Dr. Bhagwanti Devi, Dr. Nazia and others said that they have been observing the day with full zeal & zest every year at the Hospital. They said that there is no alternate to a mother’s love in the world, her importance and her courage adding mother’s affection is a unique gift of God. They said that they are proud of working in an institution where mothers do come for treatment and we being doctors fill their laps with angel-like kids. They complained that SZHW is facing an acute shortage of medics and paramedics along with other required latest facilities. There is no ICU ward neither is there any blood bank equipped with modern facilities, they added. There is also no security system in this women’s hospital and hostel due to which they always face troubles for which the administration has been informed but nothing has yet come out and demanded of the higher authorities to fulfill their requirements on urgent basis so that mothers should not suffer. They claimed that 4,412 pregnant women were admitted in the Gynea Ward-II last year, out of which 36 expired and 12 were brought dead adding major reason of death of a pregnant woman is bleeding. They said that due to poverty people keep on consulting Daees due to which complications develop and qualified lady doctors are consulted when it is too late for which proper awareness is needed on an emergency basis. Chief guest Dr. Afsar Bhutto, Registrar, Benazir Bhutto Medical University, said that after God, mothers’ ‘hastee’ is the biggest. He said mothers spend days & nights upbringing their kids without caring for her own health & pains. He said those descendants who do not give proper respect to their mothers are indeed very unfortunate. The registrar said that since the last ten years Chandka Medical College Hospital is facing acute shortage of medics, paramedics and other staff but nobody has as yet paid any heed to the miseries being brought upon by the patients because they are the ultimate sufferers. He said non-availability of ICU in SZHW is equal to a crime. Bhutto said he will put up the issues before the Medical Superintendent, Vice Chancellor and the Hospital Management Board and shall try to resolve them on priority basis.
