ISLAMABAD: Pakistan tennis team went down fighting to Turkey in the final of the team event at the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku on Tuesday to clinch silver medal, the country’s second after their karate silver was bagged by Saadi Abbas the other day. Turkey’s Aneel Yuksul beat Pakistan’s Mohammad Abid 7-6, 6-0 and his compatriot Altug Chilikbilik downed Aqeel Khan 6-2, 6-3 to win the tie. In another interesting clash in volleyball on Tuesday, Turkey beat Pakistan 3-2 after a close contest. In the first four sets, both the nations were tied at 2-2 but Turkey clinched the fifth set 15-12 to win the fixture. In the boxing quarter-finals, Syria’s Hasan-al-Misry beat Pakistan’s Mohibullah 5-0 while Kazakistan’s Ochkin Ilya beat Pakistan’s Arshad Hussain 5-0. Earlier, the women’s swimming team added another medal to Pakistan’s medals tally by winning bronze medal in 4x200m freestyle competition. The women swimming team comprised Kiran Khan, Bisma Khan, Jehanara Nabi and Mishael Aisha Ayub. Meanwhile, Mohammad Khalil Akhtar was the first Pakistani who gifted the country its first medal when he snared bronze in the men’s 25m centre fire pistol event with an aggregate score of 577-16X. Ruslan Lunev of Azerbaijan got gold with a score of 581-25X and Yusuf Dikee of Turkey claimed silver with a total of 581-18X. In the men’s 10m air rifle qualification phase, Pakistan’s Ghufran Adil with a total of 608.7 finished 18th out of 25 shooters, two of them did not start. Similarly, Siddiq Umar, in the same event finished 23rd with a total of 100.2.
