Sir: A police officer works tirelessly and at times without complaining, day in and day out. No doubt, the profession has earned a bad reputation over the years, but we cannot stop short of acknowledging the bravery with which they protect the citizens in general. Only if we try to see a police officer from a different perspective, somebody who works 12 hours a day that often exceeds 15 or more, maybe we could understand the stress he goes through. From my personal experience, I have seen police officers in bad health, suffering from weak eyesight, high blood pressure, etc. All these ailments have a direct bearing on the system eventually. It is my request to the police high command to look into work timings of their lower-ranking personnel. For instance, with the induction of more police officers, three shifts of eight hours each may be regulated. This would make life easier a little for the many in the police who are overworked and under-appreciated. MUHAMMAD NOMAN RASHEED Karachi
