Sir: Lyari is one of the oldest localities in Karachi. After partition, this area was considered the hub of economic activities in Karachi. Thousands of people made it their ‘hometown’ and settled here for a better life. Today, Lyari has become an abattoir owing to the bad policies of the Pakistan People’s Party. The weaponry being used in Lyari is horrifying. How did such artillery find its way into this densely populated area? This could not have been accomplished without the assistance of political parties and the law enforcement agencies. Lyari, the stronghold of the PPP: seeing it fall to pieces is akin to shredding the dreams of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Ms Benazir Bhutto. The government has failed miserably to provide security to the citizens. The way the people of Lyari have been targeted leaves little doubt about the priorities of the present government.
