Sir: As is written in the Constitution of Pakistan 1973, getting education is the fundamental right of every citizen. Contrary to this clause, many children of Pakistan do not go to school either because they cannot afford to or because the state-run schools are least bothered about the dropout rate, causing many children to flee schools. Children who cannot afford schooling end up earning for themselves and their families; school dropouts find themselves working in some garage or cheap restaurant to earn a livelihood. Though state-run schools provide cheap schooling, the standard of these institutions is so poor that a child leaves as uneducated as he had been when admitted to the school. It is about time our government improves the standard of schools. ALI JIBRAN Karachi
