Sir: People are unaware of the facilities developed for special children in Pakistan. There are many institutions and organisations that have dedicated their services, time and effort to bring meaning to the lives of physically challenged children. There is a school with the name Ida Rieu for children with hearing and vision impairments. Dar-ul-Sukoon caters to cognitively impaired people. It has special hostels for those who are abandoned by their families owing to disabilities. I would like to highlight the work of an NGO that has designed special courses for these children, with major emphasis on art. The idea is that art is the best outlet for expression for special children. Unless we know what is being offered for the betterment of special children, their well-being would remain merely a wishful dream. NUDRAT KAMAL Karachi
