Sir: Severe poverty has forced a large number of villagers in rural Punjab, especially in Sargodha division, to sell their kidneys to private individuals or hospitals. According to a report, trade in human organs has become a flourishing business in Pakistan, with more than 200 such cases becoming known only in recent months. While the average market price for a kidney is about Rs 1-1.5 million, the middlemen exploits the donor by giving him only half of this amount. The government, media, and civil society should launch a campaign against illegal kidney sale and stop it from becoming a source to end poverty. NIMAZ AMJAD Via e-mail
