SYDNEY: The festival is one of the most blissful days on the Islamic calendar and signals the end of the holy month of Ramadan, a period of 30 days during which all Muslims are obligated to give up from eating and drinking between dawns to dusk. Ramadan is pragmatic worldwide and is a phase of prayer, fasting and charity for Muslims and its observance is regarded as one of the Five Pillars of Islam. Prime Minister Tony Abbott has sent his greetings to Muslims across Australia as they come together for Eid. The prime minister in his message also stated that Ramadan is not only a religious fiesta about fasting and praying but it is about concentrate on community and thinking of those who are less auspicious. By fasting, and through acts of charity, Ramadan urge Muslims to remember those less fortunate than themselves.
