MIAMI: Real Madrid and Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo will not feature against Barcelona in International Champions Cup (ICC) preseason Clasico on Saturday. Relevant Sports, company managing ICC, chairman Charlie Stillitano said that Ronaldo was willing to fly to the United States to play against Barca, but personal commitments made it impossible. “He really wanted to be here. This is not a diva situation. He was hoping that he could make it. He waited until today to let us know, but unfortunately, Ronaldo’s personal commitments precluded him from being here,” said Stillitano. The 32-year-old Portuguese was earlier this week in China for Nike’s promotional tour, and is expected to appear before a Spanish court on July 31 pertaining to tax evasion against the four-time player of the year. Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane also confirmed Ronaldo’s absence in preseason adding that the team is ready to face anyone with or without the Portuguese star. “Cristiano will be with us on August the 5th to start the season. There are no worries because he’s on vacations and have to enjoy his vacations. I believe that all of us are ready for the match tomorrow and I believe that,” said the French tactician. Ronaldo helped Real Madrid win the Spanish and Champions League double last season, concluding with a 4-1 defeat of Serie A giants Juventus in the UCL final for Los blanocs second straight European title.
