LAHORE: The executive committee of Asia Rugby has decided to provide coaching and other technical support to the Pakistan Rugby Union (PRU) to help it to further speed up its efforts to promote the game in the country. According to a press release issued by the PRU, the meeting was held in Murree where various office-bearers of the Asian body were present. The meeting lauded Pakistan`s performance which has emerged as a fast growing rugby-playing nation. To further accelerate the speed of progress of the sport in Pakistan, the continental body decided to provide coaches and other technical facilities to the PRU. The meeting, which was a full day affair, discussed different plans and strategies for promoting the game across the contingent. Earlier, Syed Aqil Shah, the POA Sports Commission chairman and vice-president of the Pakistan Olympic Association, welcomed the delegates for the meeting. Asia Rugby president Koji Takumasu thanked Aqil and Fawzi Khawaja, the PRU president, for the warm welcome accorded to the delegates. The Asia Rugby chief praised the PRU efforts for promoting the sport. The meeting was attended by the executive committee members from Japan (Koji Tokumasu), India (Aga Hussain, vice-president) and the UAE (Qais Aldhalai, general secretary). Others who attended the meeting included members from Hong Kong (Trevor Gregory, Asia Rugby representative to World Rugby; Mike Haynes, treasurer; Ross Mitchel, general manager Asia Rugby), Singapore (Mathew Oakley, manager services Asia Rugby), South Korea (Jaesub Choi, exco member), Taiwan (Herman Haung, exco member), Thailand (Nattapol Hemyoo, exco member), Uzbekistan (Sodyq Safoev, exco member) and Pakistan (Fawzi Khawaja, executive committee member).
