LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has stayed an advance income tax notice issued to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). Through a writ petition, the PCB’s counsel stated the PCB was a national institution for the promotion of cricket in the country and under the laws it was exempted from all kind of taxes. He said the FBR issued a notice to the board for the recovery of Rs.400 million under the head of advance income tax for the period of two years. The counsel argued that under section 236 of Income Tax Ordinance the tax could be levied on the income of an individual only and not an institution. He asked the court to set aside the show cause notice issued to the PCB for the recovery of the advance income tax for being unlawful. Justice Ayesha A Malik suspended the tax notice and sought a reply from inland revenue department of the FBR within a fortnight. Published in Daily Times, September 20th 2017.
