
KARACHI: The second day of four-day anti-polio vaccination campaign remained peaceful in Karachi on Wednesday. The polio teams working in their respective areas were provided foolproof security against any possible attack, officials said.
As many as 8.4 million children in Sindh will be administered polio vaccines during the campaign that started on May 23rd in major parts on Sindh, excluding Karachi, to accommodate children with polio drops under five years of age. However, the campaign started in Karachi on Tuesday with target of 2.2million children.
Karachi Police Spokesman Qamar Zaib Satti said that as many as 5,645 police personnel are deployed in 232 mobiles along with 130 police motorcycles.
The spokesman informed that the police personnel deputed on the security of polio staff are provided with bulletproof jackets.
Vigilant police patrolling is ensured besides patrolling and deployment of personnel at sensitive areas, spokesman added.
According to Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) Sindh, around 6,500 polio vaccination teams were deployed on Wednesday in Karachi.
While talking to Daily Times, EOC official said that there are few neighbourhoods including New Karachi where drive started late on Tuesday due to late security deployment. However, the campaign is running smoothly.
