KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday issued notices to director general (DG) Rangers Sindh and inspector general of police (IGP) Sindh, directing them to submit their respective comments on the petitions seeking whereabouts of missing persons.
The Sindh High Court bench headed by Justice Irfan Saadat took up the petitions filed for the recovery of missing persons including Dil Murad, Muhammad Yousuf, Farhan
and others.
Aisha, who is the wife of missing Dil Murad, submitted that they are the residents of Mauri pur, area of Karachi and her husband has been missing since May 11th. She submitted that she had approached the concerned police station but unable to know the whereabouts of her spouse.
On a serate note, Shabana, who is the mother of missing Muhammad Yousuf, informed the court that the whereabouts of her son has not been traced since April 8th.
In another petition, Sumera, the wife of missing Farhan, submitted that they are the residents of Liaqutabad, area of Karachi and her spouse has been missing since
April 13th.
The petitioners alleged that the law enforcers picked up their relatives but they are not disclosing the arrests.
While citing DG Rangers Sindh, IGP Sindh and home secretary as respondents, the petitioners prayed the court to direct the respondents to produce the detainees before the court. After the initial hearing, the court issued notices to deputy attorney general, advocate general of Sindh and respondents to file their comments in the next hearing.
Meanwhile, the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday sought comments from prosecutor general of Sindh on a plea filed by Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Rauf Siddiqui requesting the court to combine all hate-speech cases registered against him together. The Sindh High Court bench headed by Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah was hearing the plea filed by the MQM leader.
Siddiqui submitted that he has been named in over 20 cases pertaining to hate speeches against military establishment in different police stations. He requested the court to combine all the cases together since they are same in nature. The court issued notice to prosecutor general directing him to file the comments in the next hearing. The MQM chief is facing charges of delivering hate speeches against military establishment and other security agencies while other party leaders including Rauf Siddiqui are named in the charge sheet for facilitating and arranging these hate speeches.
Over 20 cases have been registered against Rauf Siddiqui under the clauses of the Pakistan Penal Code and Sections 6 and 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) of 1997.
