KHAIRPUR: A Two-Day National Conference on Sindhi Literature of Three Centuries was organized by various Chairs (Bhittai Chair, Sachal Chair, Sami Chair, Shaikh Ayaz Chair and Dr. Tanveer Abbasi Institute of Creative Literature) functioning under the Faculty of Arts & Languages was inaugurated at Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur here on Monday. Mr. Nawab Khan Wassan, MNA, PPP, was the chief guest in the inaugural session of the conference while Prof. Dr. Parveen Shah, Vice Chancellor, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur presided over the event. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Nawab Khan Wassan said, “Sindh is the cradle of literature. In the current era of extremism, terrorism and illiteracy, the promotion of literature is the crying need of the time. We must take serious initiatives to promote art, culture and literature. We should follow the message of Shah Latif which is full of peace and harmony. He announcement to a lot Rs. 10 million to this University. Prof. Dr. Parveen Shah, in her speech said, “We are providing a congenial atmosphere to students. We believe in quality education. It is my ardent desire that Bhittai Chair SALU may flourish globally. We plan to organize an international conference on Latif’s message and philosophy in collaboration with Latif Chair, University of Karachi. We are very much thankful to Syed Waqar Shah for his kind presence. I appreciate the extensive efforts of Prof. Dr. Yousuf Khushk for organizing such conference for the first time in the history of this University.” Syed Waqar Hussain Shah Latifi, Custodian, Dargah Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai said, “The message of Latif is the message of love, affection, tolerance and brotherhood. The projection of Latif’s message must be heralded internationally. We can eradicate the roots of extremism, intolerance and terrorism from the society with the philosophy of Latif’s message.” Shafique Ahmed Mahesar, Commissioner, Mirpur Khas Division said, “Literature is the mirror of society. Four research journals brought out by the Faculty of Arts & Languages is a herculean task. Dr. Khushk deserves to be praised for this noble task.” Prof. Saleem Memon, Director Latif Chair, University of Karachi said, “Sindhi literature has its own importance even in the age of technological development. The research on Sindhi literature must be conducted on modern lines so that the new generation could read and enjoy literary works of the past writers confidently.” Prof. Abdul Ghafoor Memon, Chairman, Sindhi Language Authority said, “This world is loaded with corruption and injustice. We need to purify our souls with the light of spiritualism. We must spread the true spiritual message of Shah Latif and Sachal. Works of Sami, Shaikh Ayaz and Tanveer Abbasi have universal appeal for people of all ages.” Earlier, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yousuf Khushk, Dean, Faculty of Arts & Languages welcomed the guests and participants. He said, in this two-day conference, more than 60 scholars will present their research papers. On this occasion five books published by Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai Chair, Sachal Chair, Sami Chair, Dr. Tanveer Abbasi Institute of Creative Literature and Shaikh Ayaz Chair were launched. The Deans of various Faculties, Directors, Chairpersons, Professors, Teachers, Officer, Students and Employees attended the inaugural session. The second session of the conference was presided over by Syed Waqar Hussain Shah Latifi. Prof. Saleem Memon was the chief guest and Ahsan Danish was the guest of the honor.
