KARACHI: The Sindh Education Foundation (SEF) is allegedly wasting the funds of millions of rupees on closed schools falling under the jurisdiction of the foundation’s assisted schools in the province. The management of SEF instead of stopping the flow of funds to such private-run schools is just issuing warnings to their managers. Recently, the SEF issued warning letters to Kundo Khan alias Kashif Bajeer, who is running two schools. “It has been observed that since you are in contract under SEF Assisted Schools SAS with Sindh Education Foundation, your performance in delivering education services to the students as envisaged under the contractual arrangement signed between us is unfortunately quite unsatisfactory. “The overall state of education in the school under your jurisdiction was not in accordance with agreed parameters of the contract”, stated Mushtaque Soomro, Assistant Director SEF, in the letter to Kashif, a copy of which is available with Daily Times. “You were advised through letters to improve the schools’ conditions at the SEF has set criteria till June 30, 2016. The financial assistance to both the schools was conditional with compliance of shared guidelines and due to unsatisfactory performance and closure of schools financial assistance could not be executed for your closed schools,” the letter added. “SEF provided Rs 2.062 million as school establishment cost to partner schools with a view to ensure adequate school environment. It has been observed that if you have failed to invest in the schools and have already begun to contravene the contractual provisions and your schools have been found closed from May 31, 2016. “You are hereby warned to improve the performance; failure to do so shall invoke ultimate action. You are further advised to submit a written response along with the Schools Revival Plan as per the set criteria of the SEF within 15 days as you receive this letter”, the letter concluded. Daily Times repeatedly tried to contact Managing Director Sindh Education Foundation Aziz Kabani but his cell phone remained out of reach till the filing of this report.
