HYDERABAD: Hundreds of fishermen and members of civil society rallied here on Saturday against forced the occupation of sweet water lakes by influential landlords and contractors. The participants of the rally later staged a sit-in demanding an end of the occupation of lake waters so that fishermen could earn a livelihood for their families. Addressing the participants of the rally, Mustafa Mirani, Juman Mallah, Punhal Saryo, Dr. Ashothama and Abbas Khoto said that the Sindh government had passed a bill to cancel contract system on lakes but some elements belonging to the ruling party have occupied the water depriving fishermen of their livelihood. They said that they had held a meeting with the fisheries minister and provided him a list of landlords who had occupied sweet water lakes. They added that they had brought the matter to the notice of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto but in vain.
