KARACHI: Commissioner for Karachi Aijaz Ahmed Khan has claimed that divisional and district administrations have fined shopkeepers Rs 892,100 for overcharging while 4 shopkeepers were arrested for continuous profiteering in Karachi during a crackdown operation against profiteers. They caught and fined at least 366 shopkeepers. During the crackdown, 15 milk sellers were charged Rs.99,500; 83 vegetables sellers, were fined Rs.67,300; 131 fruits-sellers fined Rs.128,000; 27 chicken sellers were fined 219,000; 18 grocers were charged Rs. 202,000 while four shopkeepers were arrested for grossly overcharging customers. Action against profiteers was taken in different areas of the metropolis including Saddar, Civil Lines, Garden, Site, Baldia, Ferozabad, Jamshed Quarters, Gulshan-e-Iqbal,Gulzar Hijri, Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, Orangi, Baldia Bin Qasim, Ibrahim Hyderi, News Karachi Landhi, Korangi and some areas of Model colony. Commissioner Karachi Aijaz Ahmed Khan has said that the crackdown against profiteers will continue until the sale of essential items are ensured in accordance with the official rate-list.
