GUJRANWALA: People face difficulties in parking their cars on GT Road as the parking plaza built three months ago has not been opened. The government pressed the contractor to build the plaza on time but after its completion, the authorities concerned have turned a blind eye to the matter. The delay also caused rumours amongst the public that underhand dealing is being conducted between administration and local politicians to allot the offices and shops of the plaza to PML-N workers. The government had approved the construction of the district government’s parking plaza on GT Road at an estimated cost of Rs270 million. The city district government started the construction work to facilitate the vehicle owners, and it was to be built by 2015. However, as construction was done at a slow pace, its cost has been increased by upto 300 percent and work was only completed in 2017 instead of 2015. When contacted, the spokesman of the DC Office and Municipal Corporation said that theparking plaza will be functional and opened for the public after completion of all relevant procedures.
