LAHORE: Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed Friday submitted a resolution in the Notice Branch of the assembly seeking trial of ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif under Article 6 of the constitution for allegedly "provoking" masses - in his speeches during the GT Road rally - against the five-member SC verdict in the Panama case.
The resolution urged the chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) to take suo motu action against the disqualified prime minister.
In the resolution, the opposition leader said that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was spreading hatred and delivering "contempt" speeches against the state institutions during the Grand Trunk Road rally.
The opposition leader's resolution further stated said that the ousted premier was also provoking masses of the country against the five judges of the Supreme Court, which was totally unconstitutional and tantamount to the contempt of the court.
Separately, a resolution was also filed in the Punjab Assembly by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed legislator from Mianwali Ahmad Khan Bhachar in which he demanded the government to impose a ban on the production and sale of energy-drinks across the province.
