ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Finance and Economic Affairs Senator Ishaq Dar has said members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will be appointed keeping in view the 22nd Amendment. In an interview to Radio Pakistan, he said meetings will be held on the issue after Eid, adding that the process would be completed with 45 days under the 22nd Constitution Amendment, which was approved by President Mamnoon Hussain on June 8. Under the said amendment bureaucrats, government officers and technocrats were deemed eligible for appointment as the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and ECP members in addition to serving or retired judges of the Supreme Court. The bill was approved two days before the retirement of four members of the ECP, thus making it difficult for the government and the opposition to reach a consensus on the names of new members in such a short time.
