LOS ANGELES: The next episode in the Star Wars movie franchise is to be called Star Wars: Episode VIII: The Last Jedi. The title was revealed in a tweet from the official Star Wars account, which read, “It’s official. STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI is the next chapter of the Skywalker saga. This December.” It also contained a link that read, “We have the greatest fans in this or any other galaxy. In appreciation of the fans, we wanted them to be the first to know the title of the next chapter in the Skywalker saga.” The movie will follow ‘The Force Awakens’ plotline and is not to be associated with Rogue One and the forthcoming Han Solo film, which are standalone films in the same universe. Star Wars: The Last Jedi is written and directed by Rian Johnson, and stars Mark Hamill and the late Carrie Fisher alongside series newcomers Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley and John Boyega. It was revealed that Fisher had finished shooting her scenes on the film before her death in 2016.
