“Who are you calling a diva?” singer and actress Jennifer Lopez, actress Kerry Washington, actress and producer Julianna Margulies, actress Sarah Paulson, actress and director Regina King, actress and singer Kirsten Dunst and actress Constance Zimmer ask on the powerful new cover of The Hollywood Reporter. The A-listers, join forces to fight against the unfair and sexist ‘diva’ label they’ve earned during their career. In the new issue, the seven women have a candid conversation about all of the challenges faced being a woman in Hollywood from being called a diva to fighting for producing credits and having to dye their hair blonde to play a leading lady. Jennifer Lopez opened up about her so-called ‘diva antics’, which have plagued most of her career revealing, “I got a moniker of being ‘the diva’, which I never felt I deserve, which I don’t deserve because I’ve always been a hard worker, on time, doing what I’m supposed to do, and getting that label because you reach a certain amount of success. Like, we’re not allowed to have certain opinions or even be passionate about something, or they’ll be like, ‘God, she’s really difficult’. It’s like, ‘am I’? Am I difficult because I care?” Sarah Paulson chimed in, after revealing she’s never been able to play a ‘romantic leading lady’ without dyeing her hair blonde, on whether gender equality in Hollywood has changed. “I think very little has changed. What’s maybe changed is the fact that there’s more of a conversation happening about it, but I don’t know that there’s been that much forward motion. I mean, I haven’t had a female director on ‘American Horror Story’ in the six years that I’ve been on the show.” The surprisingly candid and honest conversation amongst the women brings to light many issues that women in Hollywood are still facing and will have you shouting ‘YAS’ uncontrollably.
