LAHORE: The concert culture in the country has long perished. Where there were myriads of music gigs, electrifying music nights and stellar concerts held on a humongous platform in the past, as of now, Pakistan is devoid of any of that. This proves why ‘Coke Studio’ has been such a sensation ever since its inception and this also proves that Pakistan is the land of music lovers. So keeping that in mind, something wonderful has happened during the preceding months. Levi’s Live, which has picked up immense popularity now, is on its way to resuscitate the dead concert culture of the country. With each session, which is held at Farhad Humayun’s Riot Studios in Lahore, the platform brings forth new and upcoming singers who are immensely-talented, but need recognition, as well as established ones so the audience can enjoy in full and hear their favourite stars live. For those of you who attend would know how the fifth session of Levi’s Live rocked the city when it featured Gohar Mumtaz of Jal fame and Sheraz Uppal with Farhad Humayun himself paying tribute to late rocker Chris Cornell. The mesmerised audience cheered and enjoyed the night, reliving the joy of concerts and gigs at the time when they were held back in the day. Eminent media personalities, journalists, bloggers, artistes, singers and aspiring musicians rubbed shoulders to lend their support to this celebrated injection into our music industry. The past live sessions have featured Ammar Farooki, Uzair Jaswal, Diane Desobeau, Abdullah Qureshi, Maria Unera, Bayaan, Noorzadeh Raja, Rakae Jamil, Bilal Khan and Noori so far. The next Levi’s Live session is scheduled for next month. It is indeed a platform to play live music for talented young and upcoming artistes to reach their creative heights in the Pakistani music industry. Held on alternate weekends mostly, the best thing about Levi’s Live is that it creates an ambience that makes everyone realise just how much talent exists within the country and get completely lost in the rhythm and the beat. Another highlight of the fifth session was Rizwan Anwar’s performance on “Laiyyan laiyyan”. Organised and arranged by Uzma Rao of Native Rock with Levi’s furthering the cause of reviving the dead concert culture, Levi’s Live is a blessing for not just music lovers but for bringing about a sense of freedom for musicians to practise music and be recognised for their work. The sixth session is eagerly awaited.
