“Ayman” is a classical rendition of four ghazals beautifully blended in a medley based on raag “Ayman” played in kerwa, daadra and Mughlai taals. This medley comprises verses from Abida Parveen’s “Woh humsafar tha”, Madam Noor Jahan’s “Mujhse pehli si muhabbat”, Mehdi Hasan’s “Ranjish He Sahi” and Farida Khanum’s “Aaj janay ke zid na karo”. Being a passionate singer, Dr Baber Khan, who is a medical doctor and a CSS officer has attempted to pay tribute to these legends featuring the guitar maestro Aamir Zaki under the dynamic supervision of Aqeel Ahmed. Aamir Zaki is a guitarist-songwriter and composer from Pakistan. He is known for his melodic phrasing, feel, and tone. His debut album Signature was released in 1995, and Zaki was awarded a gold disc by Soundcraft UK for it. His second CD release ‘Rough Cut’ was an English album, with a tabla and six string bass rhythm section, featuring Hadiqa Kiani on vocals. The ghazal is a poetic form with rhyming couplets and a refrain, each line sharing the same meter. A ghazal may be understood as a poetic expression of both the pain of loss or separation and the beauty of love in spite of that pain. The form is ancient, originating in Arabic poetry in Arabia long before the birth of Islam.
