Sir: The former chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Mr Javed Leghari, has been found guilty of the highest treason in education — plagiarism. A probe committee has found that as much as 30 percent of an article co-authored by Mr Leghari was copy pasted from a European Union report. That really is a pathetic show by someone who should be ensuring that such travesties against education should not be occurring. How on earth can the one-time head of the HEC set any kind of example, checks or controls when he himself has been found guilty of a repugnant fraud indeed? No wonder the education system in this country is devoid of any real imagination and contribution. Without education we have made Pakistan into a wasteland of missed opportunities and slimy dealings. It is time to change this and give proper, meaningful education a chance. As for Mr Leghari, he should not be allowed near an educational department or institute again! FAROOQ NIAZI Lahore
