Sir: The Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) has recently unveiled its higher education Institutions ranking List for 2015. This Ranking List has caused great chaos in academia for various reasons. The ranking is being considered as dubious because some of the included universities do not perform their functions properly. On the other hand, those universities not included in the list are performing comparatively better in terms of providing proper education, better teaching facilities, publishing quality research papers and theses, and producing intelligentsia for the nation. It seems that merit was not taken into any consideration while compiling this report. HEC needs to drastically improve its evaluation system so that it can avoid such rankings, which highly contradict with reality The current ranking report has not only discouraged the top performing universities but also given rise to doubts about the evaluation system for education in Pakistan.
