Sir: Barring a few schools, all our educational institutions promote the contemptuous culture of cramming and plagiarism instead of inspiring imagination for creativity and constructivism. Reason behind this growing dismal state of affairs in our educational and training academies is largely the casual appointment of administrative staff at these places. Only the other day I asked one repeatedly reemployed old employee, who is nothing but a master of flattery to promote constructivism in the class room to introduce teaching based on ‘mental construction’, whereby participants construct their own understanding by reflecting on their personal experiences, and by relating the new knowledge with what they already know. However, while I was saying this the man lost his patience. Nevertheless, no such endeavour can come true unless governmental bodies endorse its active pursuit. I hope that our institutions start producing more thinkers and less crammers soon. HASHIM ABRO Islamabad
