PESHAWAR: The activists of Aafia Movement district Peshawar on Friday organized a protest demonstration against the imprisonment of Dr Aafia Siddiqui by the United States of America (USA). Holding banners and placards inscribed with different slogans regarding the early release of the Dr Aaffia, the annoyed protesters gathered outside Peshawar Press Club at Sher Shah Suri Road and shouted anti-US slogans. Wasim Abbas who led the demonstration told reporters that 14 years had been completed to Dr Affia in US prison but the Pakistani rulers were least bothered to take tangible steps for her release. He said that neither the current government and the former rulers nor the opposition leaders were in favour of the release of Dr Affia. He was of the view that Pakistani rulers were completely under the US chain of slavery and are following the US dictations. Honourable nations never see her mothers and sisters in the foreigners’ custody. He appealed to Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharief to play his role in the release of Dr Affia. “If the release of the detained Affia was not made possible in current situation, the upcoming generation and history will never forgive us”, he lamented.
