ISLAMABAD: Pakistan-Belarus Joint Commission on Science and Technology (JCST) on Thursday agreed to enhance cooperation between the two countries regarding science and technology This was decided during the second meeting of Pakistan-Belarus JCST held at the Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR). Vice Chairman of JCST and Head of the Department of Science and Innovation Activities in the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus, Viktor Volosatikov led the Belarusian delegation, while PCSIR Chairman Dr Shahzad Alam led the Pakistani delegation. The JCST reviewed the progress of the decisions, made during 1st JCST’s meeting held in August 2015 in Minsk, Belarus. The joint commission discussed and adopted the statutes for the establishment of a Belarus-Pakistan Joint Centre for Science and Technology Cooperation. It is pertinent to mention that the said centre is going to be established at the PCSIR head office, and would be formally operational in October this year. Discussions were also held regarding cooperation between Pakistan National Accreditation Council (PNAC) and its Belarusian counterpart in the field of accreditation. Meanwhile, an action plan for the implementation of a MoU signed earlier between Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) and Belarus State Committee for Standardisation (SCS) was also discussed. The JCST also had a brief in the bilateral research and development projects that were conceived as follow up of the 1st JCST meeting. The JCST accorded its approval to go ahead for implementing these projects.
