ISLAMABAD: A Regional Art Exhibition titled ‘From Takht Bhai to Potohar’ will open at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) at 4pm on Tuesday (today). The exhibition is a prelude to the 9th National Art Exhibition being arranged after a hiatus of 14 years. As many as 126 artists from across the country are participating in the festival. These artists work in different genres and will be showcasing up to 300 artworks including paintings in multi media, miniatures, reliefs, murals, sculptures, installations, digital and graphic prints, photographs and wooden pieces. PNCA Director General Syed Jamal Shah, while talking to this scribe, said that art lovers would find a large spectrum of creative flair at the festival to sooth their aesthetics. “The exhibition is a blend of oriental, contemporary, and experimental works. A jury of senior artists will select art pieces for the grand show – the 9th National Art Exhibition that would be launched at the National Art Gallery in Islamabad, and later would be shown at all major towns of the country,” he said. Shah said that all the regional exhibitions being arranged countrywide were part of the initial screening process to select exhibits for the 9th National Art Exhibition so that the final show could be a representative one showcasing the best in different genres. “This time the best art will be selected by renowned artists themselves and not by the PNCA team,” he said. He hoped that these regional exhibitions would bring forth a realistic image of the land and people of Pakistan. Published in Daily Times, August 22nd 2017.
