ISLAMABAD: Briefing the Upper House of Parliament on Thursday, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said the government has taken several measures to check infiltration and improve security on Pak-Afghan border. In a written reply, the minister said the government has demanded the Afghan National Army to take firm action against terrorists on its soil, adding that work was also in progress to improve border contacts of Pakistan Army and Afghan security forces. The upper house was informed that Pakistan is cooperating in Quadrilateral Coordination Group (QCG) – the four-nation group for reconciliation in Afghanistan and all disputes regarding border issues with the brotherly neighbouring country would be settled. Minister for States and Frontier Regions Abdul Qadir Baloch told the House that coordination between the militaries of Pakistan and Afghanistan had enhanced to ensure better management of the border. He said Pakistan was also facilitating Afghan reconciliation process for peace and stability in the neighbouring country. To another question, Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid told the Senate that a railway line of 682 km would be laid between Pakistan and China from Havelian to Khunjerab under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project. The actual cost of the project would be worked out after detailed feasibility study and design of the project.
