ISLAMABAD: National University of Modern Languages (NUML) launches “Taming Disasters” authored by Asrar Ayub, one of the pioneers in producing books on disaster management in the context of Pakistan. He is eminent writer and Director Knowledge Management cell at Earthquake Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Authority (ERRA). The launch ceremony organised by Department of Governance and Public Policy (G&PP) was chaired by Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC), Dr Mukhtar Ahmed while, Rector NUML, Major Gen Zia ud din Najam (Retd), DG NUML Brig Riaz Ahmed Gondal, Head Governance and Public Policy Maj Gen Syed Usman (Retd), Deans, HoDs, Faculty members and around 600 students participated in the event. While speaking on the ceremony, Chairman HEC Dr Mukhtar appreciated the author and urged the need to fill the gap between theory and practice in the field of disaster management. He urged universities to initiate short programs for the students to build their capacities to manage both natural and man-made disasters at domestic and national level. He stressed the need to generate more local knowledge and literature on various aspects of disaster governance.
