ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has failed to arrest more people on the basis of the information given by former Islamabad Circle registrar Malik Deen who is currently in the custody of the bureau on charges of corruption. On the other hand, Deen has filed a petition in a court of law for recovery of Rs 1 million, 32 tola gold worth Rs 1.6 million, four expensive watches, 3,500 Saudi riyals and two cell phones, which a NAB investigation officer seized during a raid on his house. The administrator judge of the Accountability Court No.1, Muhammad Bashir, on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of the case till April 28. The counsel for Deen told the court that the NAB officers who arrested his client violated the law because a 60-day investigation was a must before arresting anyone. He said that NAB Deputy Director Muhammad Ali and Investigation Officer Adnan Mehmood called Deen for interrogation on the instructions of NAB Rawalpindi Director General Zahir Shah and arrested him after an exchange of words with him. Daily Times has learnt that Deen was arrested in connection with bogus allotment of plots at the Federal Employees Housing Society. It is also learnt that a former director general of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has amended the master plan of the society and sold out the land reserved for public park and school. He did not deposit even a single penny in the account of the housing society. The society president remained silent in this case. In addition, the land of former MNA Anjum Aqeel Khan was also included in the society, which was sold on commercial rates. Moreover, the office bearers of the society sold 300 kanals of land and embezzled this money. Deen told Daily Times outside the court that Ali had told him a few days ago to strike a deal with the NAB officials or get ready for his arrest.
