Pakistan’s first OpenStack cloud deployed

Published on: June 30, 2016 12:11 AM

KARACHI: The Nayatel, a leading provider of fibre to the home (FTTH) services in Pakistan, has deployed the nation’s first OpenStack cloud based on PLUMgrid Open Networking Suite (ONS) and CloudApex. Nayatel offers modern telecommunications such as broadband Internet, modern telephony, triple play, and digital video services to business and home users. With skyrocketing demand for more services, the company chose OpenStack with PLUMgrid SDN to build a cloud infrastructure with secure and scalable multi-tenancy as its platform for service delivery.

Nayatel has partnered with Inbox Business Technologies, which is one of the largest IT companies in Pakistan, to plan and install its OpenStack cloud. Together, Inbox Business Technologies and the PLUMgrid delivered a solution that enabled Nayatel to meet the demands of media consumption, content sharing and big data while optimising operational efficiency and reducing infrastructure costs. Through this OpenStack solution, Nayatel was able to leverage PLUMgrid’s micro-segmentation for secure multi-tenancy and deploy CloudApex with affinity-based GUI to visualise and monitor its virtual and physical data centre resources. “We are proud to deploy Pakistan’s first OpenStack cloud with our partners PLUMgrid and Inbox Business Technologies to deliver compelling cloud service offerings to our business and residential customers,” said Jahanzeb Arshad, VP pperations – Nayatel.

“OpenStack has become the de facto cloud management platform worldwide and Pakistan has a large developer community that is contributing to OpenStack. We are excited to be part of the community and look forward to growing with OpenStack,” he added. “Cloud-based solutions are transforming businesses everywhere. With OpenStack providing open source compute, storage and networking, companies are able to leverage this technology to build and operationalise private or public clouds,” said Mir Nasir, Inbox Business Technologies CEO.
