LAHORE: The first show of Ajoka Theatre’s new play “Kabira Kharra Bazaar May”, based on the life of 15th century saint Kabir, will be showcased today (Tuesday) at Alhamra Arts Council.
The play is being attended by eminent Indian Punjab theatre director Kewal Dhaliwal, who is arriving in Lahore to especially attesnd the fist show. “Kabira Kharra Bazaar May” will be showcased for three days from today (Tuesday) to Thursday. Qawwalis and musical performances will also be a part of the play’s storyline. Ajoka Theatre has previously presented some of the most renowned and famous plays in the past.
Ajoka Theatre CEO Shahid Nadeem, while talking exclusively to Daily Times said, “‘Kabira Kharra Bazaar May’ is an attempt to highlight the role of Sufi saints who treated people of the sub continent equally, regardless of their creed, religion, faith and colour.” He said that the three-day play was part of Ajoka’s initiative for ‘Theatre for Peace’ and hence, aimed to disseminate the message of peace so we could harmonise our society.
Nadeem said that Ajoka had previously presented plays on the lives of other Sufi saints as well, including Baba Bulleh Shah’s and on historical figures like Dara Sikhow. Answering a query he said that Ajoka Theatre was doing its bit in highlighting the rich history of Pakistan. He also added that Sufi saints like Kabir had done tremendous work to create harmony among people of different sects, castes and religions.
