Bilawal Skypes with PPP KP leaders on flood situation

Published on: April 7, 2016 11:27 PM

KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari went into session with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Party leaders over Skype to personally inquire about the situation following torrential rains, floods and landslides in the province, which have resulted in a brewing human disaster.

PPP leaders from Peshawar and other parts of the province informed the party chairman about the “total failure” of NDMA and PDMA in understanding and addressing the woes of huge number of people who have been left homeless and are incommunicado following the rains. Roads communication to many villages and hamlets has broken and there is acute shortage of food and other items necessary for human life to survive. Electric system is in shambles, but both the federal and provincial authorities seem unresponsive to the brewing tragedy, the PPP chairman was informed.

Bilawal noted that it was the duty of both the federal and provincial governments to take care of citizens hit by natural disasters in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, FATA and other affected areas, “but both these governments and their authorities are ignoring the victims”, he added. The PPP chairman said the details of the situation being faced by the rain-ravaged people pains him “and the silence and indifference of the rulers towards the sufferings of our people is causing depression among all of us”.

Those who participated in the Skype communication included PPP KP President Senator Khanzada Khan, ex-governor Masood Kauser, ex-MNA Noor Alam Khan, Najmuddin Khan, Rahimdad Khan, Sahir Shah, Azam Afridi and others. These party leaders had gathered at PPP General Secretary Humayun Khan’s residence. Bilawal sepreately held a meeting with Party MPAs from Sindh who apprised him about the development schemes, party organisation and political situation of their respective constituencies, at Bilawal House on Thursday. Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, MNA and PPP Women Wing President Faryal Talpur, Senior Sindh Minister Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani, Senior Minister Murad Ali Shah and others attended the meeting. The MPAs spoke on the issues pertaining to their constituencies and pace of development work besides organisational matters.
