Qandeel Baloch’s murder case: Another ‘honour killing’ in Pakistan

Published on: July 16, 2016 7:50 AM

MULTAN: Qandeel Baloch has been murdered by her brother Waseem in Multan on Saturday, confirmed her father.

Qandeel Baloch went to her hometown Multan apparently to claim custody of her son from her ex-husband Ashiq Hussain after he came out in news claiming her to be his wife. Although, Qandeel told the media that he was very abusive and she took divorce years ago.

Qandeel told media that she will fight to get the custody of her son now.

Sadly, her brother killed her on Saturday’s morning by suffocating her with hands. He escaped shortly after killing his sister.

Qandeel Baloch gained unbelievably high fame in a very short period of time and has been always in news ever since she hit millions of followers on social media websites.

Major part of her followers did not appreciate her work and her reasons to be in news everyday while many used harsh words and even asked her to ‘die’ or ‘she should kill herself’.

Many Maulanas and Muftis released Fatwas against her acts while some tried to bring her to the ‘right’ path.

Everyone on TV and social media discussed how she has only brought shame to Pakistan and her family as a Muslim and that she should be banned from media. A few months ago, thousands of people reported her Facebook page due to which it got deleted, but recovered shortly.

She received more hate than appreciation. This is not the first case in Pakistan or world where a daughter, a sister or a woman has been killed in the name of honour.

If we dig a little earlier in the past, not that long ago in fact a few weeks ago a 16-year-old girl Zeenat was killed by her own mother Perveen Bibi for marrying a man of her choice.

This case is one of tens of such cases that have happened over a short span of time this year only.

If we start to kill our bros & sons in the name of honour, the male species will become extinct.
May Allah forgive her. #QandeelBaloch
