
LAHORE: A division bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday refused to grant bail to accused Abdul Wahab Alvi, who was earlier arrested on charges of blackmailing over 200 lady doctors online.
He was arrested by the Central Investigation Agency (CIA) police after more than 200 lady doctors complained that Alvi used to blackmail them through social media.
Accused counsel told the court that the petitioner had nothing to do with the allegations levelled against him. He said the case against Alvi was a result of media campaign and hearsay only. He submitted that the prosecution had been failed to produce any cogent evidence against accused. He requested the court to release the petitioner on bail.
CIA Inspector Abdul Razzaq opposed the petition, saying the investigations into the case had found him guilty and a challan had also been submitted before the trial court.
Alvi is a resident of Layyah while his divorced mother lives in Toba Tek Singh. CIA police arrested Alvi on September 9 from Naran.
Earlier, he went underground after Gowalmandi police had registered a case against him on the complaint of Young Doctors’ Association leader Salman Kazmi.
Police said Alvi would start talking to lady doctors and nurses on various social media websites impersonation a secret agency officer. He would later extort money from them saying that he would make their conversations and pictures public if they did not pay him. Police said Alvi would demand Rs 15, 000 to Rs 30,000 from the doctors.
