Spokesperson for the Sindh government and Adviser to Sindh Chief Minister on Law, Climate Change, Environment and Coastal Development Barrister Murtaza Wahab has said that following the vision of Benazir Bhutto, the incumbent Sindh government is successfully moving towards turning the coastal region of the province, especially Thatta, into an economic game changer for the country.
Wahab said that the initiative of the Environment Department of Palm Oil Plantation Project in Kathore – the coastal belt of Thatta – in collaboration with a Malaysian Company, on an area of about 50 acres of land, was now yielding positive results as those plants had now turned into big trees.
The adviser said that the extraction of palm oil had been started from those trees. He said this while talking to a delegation of journalists on Sunday. Wahab said that the historical initiative of the Sindh government would certainly help reduce the import of palm oil that cost the country about $2.2 billion annually.
The adviser said that the Chinese and Malaysian experts had described the locally extracted palm oil as of superior quality than that was being imported previously from various countries. He said that according to the experts, the coastal area of Sindh was ideal for growing palm trees.
He said that Sindh had been blessed with a potentially rich coastal belt. Wahab said that it was one of the dreams of Benazir Bhutto to turn the coastal belt of the province into an economic game changer through its economic activities. The adviser said that the incumbent government of Pakistan People’s Party in Sindh through its efforts had turned its beloved leader’s dream into a reality.
