Private medical, dental colleges to follow PMDC rules for admissions

Published on: November 22, 2016 4:25 AM

LAHORE: Punjab Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Secretary Najam Ahmed Shah has said that Pakistan Medical and Dental Council’s admission policy would be followed by private medical and dental colleges for admissions.  In this connection, a provincial admission committee would also intimate the PMDC regarding the violation of rules and regulations by any private medical and dental colleges for taking necessary action according to the law. He was addressing a press conference to elaborate the admission policy for private medical and dental colleges at the University of Health Sciences on Monday. PMDC representative Dr Amir Bandesha and UHS Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Junaid Sarfraz Khan were also present.  Najam Shah said that the provincial admission committee meeting reviewed implementation of the admission policy 2016, formulated by private medical and dental colleges. He said the Lahore High Court had issued an interim order on Nov 11, which was amended by the court on Nov 18, and suspended its previous order. The court made it clear that the earlier order would be applicable only to such students who had appeared in SAT-II.  UHS Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Junaid Sarfraz Khan said that under the new policy, so far 6,544 students have applied for the admission to private medical and dental colleges. He said that the date for depositing admission forms had been extended till Nov 22 to facilitate students. The provincial admission committee had asked parents and students not to approach any private medical and dental college for admission and contact the UHS, Nishter Medical College, Multan, and Rawalpindi Medical College for depositing admission forms according to the central admission policy.  Prof Junaid Sarfaz Khan announced that the merit list for private medical and dental colleges would be displayed on December 1.
