UET dean’s degree revealed to be fake

Published on: December 1, 2016 6:51 PM

LAHORE: Sources have revealed that the MSc degree of University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Dean of Architecture City and Regional Planning and Member Syndicate Dr Ghulam Abbas Anjum has been declared fake.

In a 14-point report submitted by the UET controller of examinations to the UET vice chancellor, it is admitted that Dr Anjum had failed in one subject of MSc.

According to the record of the controller office, Dr Anjum was declared to have failed in the subject of Advance Planning and Technique in his MSc examinations. According to the record, Dr Anjum obtained 48 out of 100 marks in the said subject. The report said that Additional Controller Public Health Department and Associate Professor Mohsin Ali Shah through forgery changed the obtained numbers from 48 to 58 and a notification in favor of Dr Anjum was issued with his sole signature, bypassing the whole controller office. The report said that the changed result sheet was not signed by controller of examinations and recommended cancellation of his MSc result to the Vice Chancellor.

Despite that, Dr Anjum completed his journey from his appointment as lecturer to professor and also completed his PhD meanwhile. Currently, he is also working as Director Studies, Director Quality Assurance, Director SU Pak, Chairman Austerity Committee and Acting Chairman Architecture Department. Because of his seniority, he has also acted as vice chancellor in the absence of the vice chancellor. Dr Anjum is also a relative former principal secretary to chief minister GM Sikandar.

When contacted by Daily Times, Dr Ghulam Abbas expressed his ignorance about the matter, saying no such inquiry has ever been conducted against him. Former controller Dr Muhammad Ali Mooud said that he had filed his report with reference to this matter with the then vice chancellor. “The incumbent administration should be contacted to seek any information about further progress in the case. I cannot talk about it,” he added.

This scribe tried to contact controller examination UET, Zargham Nusrat and spokesman Adnan Khalid umpteen times and sent countless messages to them to ascertain their stance but they gave no reply to telephonic calls and messages. “We will publish their stance whenever it is received from them.”
