Police nab 51 suspects, recover huge cache of arms

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar Police have arrested 51 suspects and recovered illegal arms from them in Phandu area of provincial capital during the Search and Strike operations on Thursday.

An official of police informed Daily Times that search and strike operation in Phandu and its surrounding areas was conducted after the police force received reliable information regarding the presence of suspected persons.

The official further said that area was chosen after the martyrdom of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Asmat Ullah in a recent attack on a police patrol vehicle in Phandu.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Peshawar Sajjad Khan informed this scribe that the operation was conducted on Thursday morning and suspects are in the custody of Peshawar police. He added that the arrested persons could have cause disaster if they were not arrested in time.

Sajjad Khan further said that the Peshawar police was conducting operations in different areas of the city. “Where ever there are reports of presence of any suspects or unknown men causing trouble for the locals and residents, we go after them,” he said.

The SSP lauded the role of Peshawar police and said that the region was on the frontline in the War on Terror but the Peshawar police had bravely fought the war against terrorism and protected the people from any big disaster or destruction.

The residents of Phandu Kalle responded that the arrested suspects were involved in bad activities and seen often with unknown people of evil caliber. The Phandu Kalle is more known from its road Phandu road. Which connect Peshawar with many other rural districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province? Alongside Phando there are villages.

This was not the first time that suspects were arrested from Phandu area the official informed Daily times that before this raid 25 suspects were arrested from this area on February 04,2016 .this area connect different other areas to enter Peshawar from link roads and rural pathways. The sources added that police vehicles were targeted here and unknown suspects have conducted 7 ATA by firing on police vehicles.
