The Sindh Health Care Commission (SHCC) had ordered a private hospital in the city to sack its untrained staff and recommended a fine of Rs 0.5 million, after a nine-month-old toddler Nashwa died due to medical negligence.
The investigation committee presented its initial report to Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah, pointing at negligence on part of midwife Sobia and nursing assistant Moeez.
Earlier, the Sindh CM had formed a committee to present a report in the case.
Nashwa passed away after suffering from brain damage allegedly after being administered an excessive quantity of an injection at a private hospital.
The report stated that the injection administered to Nashwa had adverse effects on her brain, heart and liver. According to the report, Nashwa could have survived had she been provided proper treatment at the hospital.
Meanwhile, samples taken from the minor have been sent to the forensic laboratory for testing.
Nashwa was under treatment at another private hospital on Karachi’s Stadium Road.
The infant’s father had got registered a case against the administration of the Darul Sehat Hospital located in Gulistan-e-Johar. As per the first information report (FIR) registered on April 15, the incident took place when Qaiser Ali took his twin 9-month-old daughters to the hospital for treatment on April 6.

On the morning of April 7, one of the two children, identified as Nashwa, was allegedly administered an excessive quantity of an injection, after which she started having trouble breathing. Qaiser said his daughter was taken to the intensive care unit (ICU) where she was administered CPR for 45 minutes. Nashwa was then put on a ventilator.
Qaiser said after Nashwa was taken off the ventilator on April 12, doctors informed him that she “may have suffered brain injury” due to the CPR.
According to the FIR, a subsequent CT scan of Nashwa revealed that her hands, feet, eyes and mouth had been paralysed. The baby girl was then shifted to a private hospital on Stadium Road where she passed away on April 22.
