Kartarpu corridor: Navjot Singh hails India’s decision to accept Pakistan’s proposal

Navjot Singh Sidhu, a Cabinet minister in Indian Punjab and former cricketer on Thursday hailed the decision of government to accept Pakistan’s proposal to open the Kartarpur corridor for Sikh pilgrims Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur India to Pakistan.

Taking to famous microblogging site Twitter Sidhu said “I welcome this auspicious step by the Union Cabinet, it will be a cup of joy for 12 crore ‘Nanak Naam Laivas’. It will build bridges, burn animosity and will act like a soothing balm for two neighbouring countries.”

“I thank the Govt of India from the core of my heart and take a bow! I request the Hon’ble PM of Pakistan @ImranKhanPTI Sahib to take reciprocal steps for opening the Kartarpur Sahib corridor and spread Baba Nanak’s message of universal brotherhood and peace across the Globe,” he added.

Earlier, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that Prime Minister Imran Khan will lay foundation stone of Kartarpur corridor on November 28.

Taking to famous microblogging site Twitter, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said “Pakistan has already conveyed to India its decision to open Kartarpur Corridor for Baba Guru Nanak’s 550th birth anniversary. PM Imran Khan will do break ground at Kartarpur facilities in November 28. We welcome the Sikh community to Pakistan for this auspicious occasion.”

Meanwhile, India has also approved the development of Kartarpur corridor from Dera Baba Nanak in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district to the international Border.

According to the sources, Indian Home Ministry in its letter to Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi appreciated the decision of Islamabad to open Kartarpur corridor.

Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry appraised the development and said “Kartarpu Border opening is victory of peace lobby in both countries, it’s a step towards right direction and we hope such steps will encourage voice of reasons and tranquility on both sides of the border.”
